A graduate of the University of Malaya with Honours in 1986, Phye Keat was admitted as an Advocate and Sollicitor of the High Court of Malaya in March 1987, whereupon he joined the Firm. He was admitted as a partner of the Firm on January 1, 1991. Phye Keat obtained a Master of Laws degree from the University of Malaya in 1996 majoring in Advanced Company Law, Copyright, Construction Law and Alternate Dispute Resolution. As head of the Intellectual Property & Technology Department, his present practice centres on all aspects of intellectual property, information technology, technology transfers, licensing, franchising, computer contracts, telecommunications and media law.
 
A registered Patent Agent, Trademark Agent and Industrial Designs Agent, Phye Keat was one of the founding members of the Malaysian Intellectual Property Association (MIPA) and is now its current President. In addition, he is the Country Head, Malaysia, of the ASEAN I, as well as the Country Head, Malaysia, of the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association, an Executive Committee Member of the Malaysian Chapter of AIPPI ( Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriete Intellectuelle - International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property) and a Council Member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA). He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce, Malaysia, as well as the Chairman of Commercial Law & Practice and a member of the Intellectual Property Commission of the International Chamber of Commerce, Malaysia. Phye Keat heads the task force set up by the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) to consult with the Government on competition legislation in Malaysia.
