Lai Ling graduated from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand in 1993 and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in the same year. Following her admission, she practised in Auckland, New Zealand in the areas of conveyancing and commercial law until her return to Malaysia in late 1998. After her call to the Peninsular Malaysian Bar in July 1999, Lai Ling practised in the Firm predominantly in the areas of corporate and commercial law and Information and Communications Technology. She joined another firm in Kuala Lumpur in September 2002 where she again worked in the areas of ICT, commercial law and corporate finance. Having returned to the Firm as a partner in June 2005, Lai Ling now heads the Information and Communications Technology division in the Intellectual Property & Technology Department.
